Coffin Stone:

Located on Dartmeet Hill, the Coffin Stone has an eerie legend associated with it. Many years ago, an evil man passed away, and his coffin was being carried to Widecombe Churchyard for burial.

During the steep climb, the bearers rested the coffin on this large granite boulder. However, the Almighty, angered by the man’s evil deeds, sent a massive thunderbolt down to Earth.

The coffin was destroyed, along with the body inside it, and the stone itself was split asunder.
